AWRAQ began with a simple idea: beautiful henna shouldn't depend on having the time, money or opportunity to visit a henna artist.
Before AWRAQ, our founder spent years creating intricate henna designs by hand for clients celebrating weddings, Eid, special occasions and everything in between.
After becoming a mother, life changed — and finding the time to continue working as a henna artist became increasingly difficult.
But the love for henna never disappeared.
Instead, it inspired a new idea.
From Henna Artist to AWRAQ
After stepping away from appointments, our founder wanted to find a way to continue sharing the designs her customers had loved — while making henna more accessible to people experiencing the same challenges she now understood herself.
Busy parents. Working women. Students. Those who can't easily travel to a henna artist. Those who simply want a more affordable way to enjoy beautiful henna.
And so, the first stencils were created.
With over 10 years of experience as a henna artist, our founder began transforming some of her most-loved, hand-drawn client designs into stencils that could be recreated at home.
Today, every AWRAQ henna design is still drawn by hand before being carefully transformed into a stencil.
The goal has remained the same from the beginning:
To make intricate, beautiful henna easier and more accessible — without losing the artistry that makes henna special.
The Story Behind Our Designs
Our designs aren't simply patterns.
Many began as real henna designs created for customers long before AWRAQ existed.
Some even carry their stories in their names.
Our stencils are often named after women, adding a small personal touch to every design and reflecting values that sit at the heart of AWRAQ: femininity, self-expression, self-love and self-care.
The Shayma stencil, for example, takes its name from a customer with whom the original design was created.
It's a small detail, but one that represents what we want AWRAQ to be — personal, meaningful and made with care.
Why AWRAQ?
AWRAQ (أوراق) is an Arabic word meaning leaves or sheets of paper — a name that feels deeply connected to both our story and our creativity.
Leaves have always held a special place in our founder's artwork. Look closely at our henna designs and you'll find them woven throughout — from delicate details to flowing patterns filled with leaves. Drawing them brings a sense of calm, creativity and peace, almost like a form of therapy.
But AWRAQ represents more than the leaves within our henna.
The word can also refer to sheets or papers, giving the name another connection to creativity — a blank page on which an idea can begin, a design can be drawn and something beautiful can be created.
That is what AWRAQ represents to us.
A place where tradition meets creativity, where something as simple as a line on a page can become a henna design, a stencil, a piece of art or something entirely new.
As AWRAQ grows beyond henna into new forms of art, stationery, beauty and self-care, the name gives us the freedom to grow while remaining connected to where everything began:
a love of drawing, a love of leaves, and the joy of creating something beautiful.
